North Syracuse Dollars for Scholars has been active since 1985

The North Syracuse Dollars for Scholars was chartered on May 1, 1985 by some local business people and community citizens who wanted to help the youth of North Syracuse with their college expenses by providing scholarships.

Some of those founders were: Henry Fischer, Gerry Sheehan, Auriol Daugherty, Virginia Li Britz, Lis Chisling, and Ed Thornberg.

In June, 1987 two $250 scholarships were awarded . The next year 10 scholarships were awarded.

The North Syracuse Dollars for Scholars decided in 1998 to increase the minimum amount of a scholarship to $500.

North Syracuse Dollars for Scholars has now presented 1,844 scholarships for a total amount of $899,655 over a span of 27 years. We hope to reach the million dollar amount by June, 2014.
